The mining industry in Zimbabwe has created employment opportunities over the years and still continues to offer bright career opportunities. The mining industry is contributing immensely to the National output recording export growth year on year, it is a prestigious opportunity to be part of the greater team that is driving the mining industry and the Zimbabwean economy. There are a number of ways through the available institution that one can start a career in the mining industry.

  • University of Zimbabwe

    The University of Zimbabwe has been training Mining Engineers, Metallurgists, Geologist and other related professionals for the mining industry through their Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science. The following programs are available,
  • Midlands State University

    The Midlands State University has been training Mining Engineers, Metallurgists, Geologist and other related professionals for the mining industry through their 7706171203. The following programs are available,
    • BSc (Hons) Mining Engineering
    • Bachelor of Engineering(Honours) Degree in Metallurgical Engineering (5 years)
    • Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Degree in Materials Engineering (5 years)

    The Zimbabwe School of Mines has been training Technicians over the years in the areas of Mining, Survey, Geology and Metallurgy. The Zimbabwe School of Mines also hosts the Distance Learning Centre for a wide range of professional courses in the mining industry including continuous development programs. The School also trains students from within the SADC, the following courses are available,
    • National Diploma in Mining.
    • National Diploma in Mineral Processing & Metallurgy.
    • National Diploma in Metallurgical Assaying.
    • National Diploma in Geology.
    • National Diploma in Mine Surveying.
    • Postgraduate Higher National Diplomas in all the above fields.
    The Distance Learning Centre at the Zimbabwe School of Mine provides modular materials and lessons for the following,
    • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency.
    • Mine Surveyor’s Certificate of Competency.
    • Mine Engineer’s Diploma.
    • Mine Engineer’s Certificate of Competency.
    • Short Courses designed per industry requirements.
  • The Mines

    The various mines have over the years been training skilled manpower the Learnership Programs that are done in-house, these Learnerships are registered with the National Employment Council (NEC) for the Mining Industry. The following learnerships can be done in-house at the mines,
    • Learner Overseer Miner (4-11).
    • Learner Shaft Timberman (4-12).
    • Learner Plant Operator (5-11).
    • Apprenticeship training (3-12).
    • All other in-house training requirements including, blasting licences, safety, supervision and other related training requirements.
    Over and above the Learnerships the mines offer Graduate Training (GT) programs for students that have completed their studies from Universities and Colleges for mining and related disciplines.
